Young Carers - you are AMAZING!

This week is Carers Week. Caring for a family member who has a disability, mental illness, or a problematic addiction is such an important job. If you are a young person who does this we want you to know we think you are AMAZING.

Young Carers need to be respected for the work they do. Young carers give up hours and hours of their time giving physical and emotional support to others. It may not be their choice, and they may be happy to be actively involved in their family members care, but they still deserve support and acknowledgement.

Here at Zillo we respect the work you do and want to say we think you are AMAZING.

Many young carers don't talk about their responsibilities because they know it’s just part of their everyday life. They may be embarrassed, or possibly worried that something negative might happen if someone finds out.

Maybe one of your friends is a carer in their house. You might not even know but they could be responsible for lots of household stuff. Maybe they do all the washing, the cleaning, or take their siblings to school. Part of their weekly routine may include arranging hospital appointments or physiotherapist visits. Maybe they need to help one of their parents to wash, or get up or get ready for bed. That might be the reason they are tired, or moody, or angry or quiet, why you can’t chill out at theirs, or why they can't hang out with you at the weekend.

If you have a friend with a caring responsibility check in with them. Ask them if they are ok or want a hug. Tell them they are doing as great job and that you think they are AMAZING!

If you are a Young Carer reading this we encourage you to celebrate your achievements, and remember how AMAZING you are.
