Can AI generate poetry?

What makes a really good poem? There are lots of different styles of writing poetry. The aim of poetry writing is to express thoughts, feelings and emotions. Everyone has their own opinion, but some people can write poetry better than others!

International Poetry Day is a global celebration to encourage people to read, write and enjoy poetry.

Today in the Zillo office we asked ChatGPT (artificial intelligence technology) to 'write a happy haiku' to celebrate International Poetry Day.

A haiku is a poem that only has 3 lines. They are all about the syllables; line one has 5, line two has 7, and line three has 5.

Here is what the AI came up with:

“Spring breeze softly blows

Cherry blossoms dance in air

Joyful hearts embrace”

It may be a coincidence but today is the 'Spring Equinox' (sometimes called 'Ostara'). Spring is about new growth and blossom often plays a key part in themes of Spring. Do you think if we had asked it in the winter it would of written something different?

The Spring Equinox marks the beginning of Spring and means until the Autumn Equinox the daytime is longer than the night.

It is celebrated in lots of ways today in the northern hemisphere.

what is the spring equinox?
