Looking for things to do now the school holidays have started? Wirral is brimming with ideas for places to visit and there are lots of fun and affordable attractions for kids. Here are five favourites:
1. Discover your inner nerd 👨🔬
Eureka! Science + Discovery is the place to go for children to learn about science and technology in the most immersive and fun way possible... and did you know when you buy a ticket, it acts as an annual pass so you can go back as many times as you like throughout the year? It’s just as well as there is a lot to see, including a 12 foot cat, a see-saw that generates electricity and a giant digestive system. Eureka! is open every day of the week, 10am - 5pm, throughout the summer holiday, with tickets/annual passes costing £15.95 (£6.95 for 0-3 years old)
2. Go on a treasure hunt 🏴☠️
Grab a map and take your kids on an exciting treasure hunt around New Brighton, to find the space pirates, robots and giant tortoises. The trail will take you beyond the prom to uncover hidden gems on Atherton Street, Seabank Road, Victoria Road, and at Vale Park. Pick up your free map from Floral Pavilion, New Brighton Train Station, New Brighton Heritage Centre, Literally Books and Rockpoint Records. Happy exploring!
TIP: While you’re in New Brighton, why not go for a round of miniature golf at Championship Adventure Golf, or grab an ice-cream at Caffe Cream?
3. Explore Wirral’s biggest playground 🤪
Kids will love climbing, balancing and exploring three floors of obstacles, ladders and tunnels at Bidston Sports and Activity Centre! There’s a large Soft Play for children aged 0-7, while older kids will love the state-of-the-art Tag Active game, where they aim to gather points to top the leaderboard. Grown-ups can watch the fun unfold in the Active Zone café. Tag Active costs £13.50 for 60 minutes, consisting of three 20 minute games. Soft Play costs £8 per child, under 1’s are free.
4. Get lost in Brimstage Maze 🚜
You know summer has officially started when you’re trying to find your way through clues in Brimstage’s maize maze. The maze will be open every day 10am - 6pm from Sunday 21 July to Sunday 1 September and this year the theme is gameshows, so it’ll be nice to see you, to see you nice! As well as the maze, there will be lots more for kids to enjoy, including zip-lines, climbing walls, an indoor play barn and a new barrel ride adventure. Tickets cost £12.95 for everyone aged 3+, £8.95 for people aged 65+ and free for 0-2 year olds.
5. Get out on the water ⛵
8-16 years olds can sign up for a Multi-Activity session with Wirral Watersports Centre, which gets them five half days on West Kirby Marine Lake on a choice of sailing vessels for £150. It’s a great way to introduce young people to watersports. There are other courses and sessions available for adults and juniors. Did you know that you can rent out a kayak or paddleboard on West Kirby Marine Lake? Wirral Watersports Centre’s ‘Pay & play’ offer costs £18 per hour per person and all equipment is included in the price, including kayak/board, wetsuits and life-jackets. It’s great exercise, great fun and the lake offers some of the best views in Wirral. Look out for the blue flags on the beach when Pay and Play is on offer. West Kirby Marine Lake is open throughout the Summer holidays.
