Nitrous Oxide Officially Classified as a Class C Drug in the UK, from November 8
In a significant move aimed at curbing the recreational use of nitrous oxide, commonly known as "NOS," the United Kingdom has officially classified the substance as a Class C drug.
As of November 8, 2023, possession of nitrous oxide for the purpose of achieving a euphoric high will be illegal, carrying the potential for community punishments, substantial fines, or a criminal caution on one's record.
The decision to reclassify nitrous oxide comes in response to growing concerns about the dangers associated with its misuse and the need to strengthen legal measures to deter its recreational use.
Under the new regulations, nitrous oxide now falls under the same legal classification as other controlled substances, such as certain prescription medications and anabolic steroids. The move signifies that the UK government is treating the recreational use of nitrous oxide with greater severity.
Possession of nitrous oxide with the intent to use it recreationally is now a criminal offense.
