Back To School!

Back to school - hooray or booooooooo?

Summer holidays are over, the nights are getting shorter and soon the leaves will be starting to turn brown!

Everyone here at Zillo hopes you have had an amazing summer. Are you feeling rested, relaxed and ready to start a new year at school? Maybe you are starting at college, or even university. Wherever you are going in September try and make the most of everyday.

We know that many of you want the long light days of the summer holidays to go on and on and on! So how can you make the most of going back to school.

Here’s a few hints and tips for everyone of all ages. There is also a ‘latest’ article about starting year 7 which might help you of you are going into secondary school (which may feel extra scary or exciting).

  1. However old you are, whatever year you are in, however silly it might seem…..if you need support, ask someone.

  2. Having a positive mental attitude even when it feels like everything is stacked against you can help lift your mood.

  3. Enjoy the fact you will see the mates you haven’t seen over the holidays.

  4. Remember that no question is a silly question (well within reason), if you are stuck ask, if you don’t understand ask, if you need it explaining again ask.

  5. This year is your chance to get good grades, impress that person in the other form that you really like, prove you can do something a teacher didn’t think you could. Be positive, show up, make an effort and wait for the rewards.

  6. You have probably had late nights and lie-ins all holiday so waking up for the school bus may seem impossible. Try and get some earlier nights in the days leading up to going back so it’s not such a shock to the system.

  7. Find your school bag and sharpen your pencils. Being organised helps us to feel in control which is a positive thing when we have a change of routine.

  8. If you have missed the routine of being in school, embrace it, enjoy the feeling of a fresh new start, be positive, motivated and have a good attitude to learning new stuff.

  9. Or if you haven’t missed the routine of being in school and you hate it, try and think of it as a ticket to getting you where you want to be in life. Put in a bit of an extra effort and reap the rewards.

  10. Look at school with fresh eye, use it as a positive experience to help you get where you want to be in life. Shoot for the moon and then at least you will always land in the stars!
