Cosplay Corner: Lady Thor Helmet
In the anticipation of Marvel’s latest movie, Thor Love and Thunder, ZILLO Young Reporters decided to get in the mood for watching it by making their very own Lady Thor helmet!
Since everyone is so excited to see this new movie they’ve created a step by step guide on how to make one yourself using whatever craft supplies you have available so you can get involved and be creative.
First of all, use the template provided to trace out the shapes needed onto foam, cardboard or plastic depending on your choice of material, to create your helmet. Remember to trace them, flip them over and trace again so you have 2 of each piece.
After you cut out the pieces you can copy on the patterns provided or add a bit of unique flair and create your own patterns.
Glue, stick, tape or bind the helmet front and helmet back piece together and bend to make it fit your head and frame your face. (We used a heat gun, these get extremely hot so be very very careful get some adult help, a hair dryer also helps to soften the foam to to help bend our foam and contact cement to stick the pieces together.)
Now connect the mask sections together at the registration marks and bend to frame your face as needed.
Next you connect the top mask section to the to the helmet, make sure you angle it in so it frames your face.
Then you bend the lower mask section at the registration marks to create a nose form (we again used a heat gun.)
Connect the lower and top marks sections to the helmet sides and make sure the pieces all line up.
Now all you need to do is glue the wings to the helmet sides, lining up with the markings and make sure all of the helmet is well bonded together.
The next steps are to fill all gaps and seams with PVA glue and then prime the helmet and paint it with whatever colors you want to use. (We also decided to add some eyebrows but you don’t have to include those.)
And after following all those steps you should now have a Lady Thor helmet that you can proudly wear to any comic-con or movie theatre or just simply wear it wherever you go to show it off to everyone.
