To be or not to be

For most young people when they think about Shakespeare they think, school and exams. The impact William Shakespeare had on the whole of the arts culture in the United Kingdom however is legendary. His stories and plays are still today being performed around the world, interpreted and reinterpreted.

Summer 2022 will see the opening of northwest’s very own Shakespeare’s Globe. The Shakespeare Northern Playhouse is based upon the 17th century theatre design and will be lit by candle light.

The original Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre was built in London in 1599 was destroyed by a fire in 1613. A second theatre was built on the same site in 1614 and was closed in 1642. The theatre was host to all of Shakespeare’s and his contemporaries plays like Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet.

The modern Shakespeare’s Globe was built in 1997 on the banks of the river Thames in London and plays host to some of the most exciting arts and cultural events in the UK.

Shakespeare’s Northern Playhouse is being built using the same wooden construction as the Globe in London and will truly incredible Theatre for the region.

This project is only one of the amazing arts and cultural projects happening in Merseyside so its time to start getting excited.
