Was Wirral the location of one of Britain’s most important battles?

the last kingdom battle of brunaburgh

Recently historian Dan Snow visited a field in Wirral where Wirral Archaeologists have found a huge amount of battlefield items dating to around the 10th Century. It is suggesting that a huge battle once took place in Wirral and even more exciting it may well answer the question to the mystery of where exactly the lost battlefield of Brunanburh actually was?

The Battle of Brunanburh was one of the bloodiest and biggest battles of early medieval history. The battle features in the new Netflix movie 'The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die', but what really happened?

The Battle of Brunanburh was fought 1100 years ago, Athelstan - the king of the English - opposed a coalition of Irish, Scots and Vikings led by Olaf Guthfrithson, King of Dublin, Constantine II, King of Scotland, and Owain, King of Strathclyde and attained a decisive victory. The enemy shield wall was penetrated. Their troops ran back to their ships for safety. Thousands died. Apart from this we know little else.

No physical evidence exists of where the battle was even fought. But a, recent stunning discovery in a field in Wirral might provide the answer to the mystery.
