Happy Summer Solstice and Happy International Yoga Day

Summer greetings from Zillo

Being a teenager is stressful right? Here at Zillo we want to help you stay as stress free as you can. Lots of things that happen can be overwhelming, but self-care can help.

Celebrating and getting outside ‘in nature’ is a lovely way to celebrate the longest day of the year - also known as Summer Solstice. Don’t forget to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK & SLIDE if you are out in the heat of the sun though (see sun safety article for more information).

Lots of research has shown that being outdoors is good for your overall wellbeing, especially your mental health. You could try mindful walking, paddling in the sea, walking in the woods or sitting in the park. Having some time out to recharge and breathe some fresh air can really help you to manage your stress levels.

Today is not only summer solstice…. it’s also International Yoga Day today!

One brilliant thing you can do that is good for your physical and emotional wellbeing is YOGA. Last night I asked a young person in a youth group about exercising. She said she used the gym 3-4 times a week. I asked her if she did yoga there. Her reply was "nooooooo, but I do see loads of middle-aged women doing it".

So this International Yoga Day we are asking - How can we convince you guys that yoga is for all ages, especially teenagers?

We know that yoga can help you to navigate this tricky time in your life. Yoga gives you a way to reduce stress while building strength and flexibility in both your body and your mind.

Different poses can help with different things, but they all help you feel good!

Why don’t you give it a try – find a local class or have a look at the Yoga Nomads website for more information.
